Delight Yourself With The Delicatessen Word

There is an eternal debate, whether we live to eat or eat to live. But one thing is for sure. We all enjoy food and treat it much more than just a way of sustaining our bodies. For this exact reason there are millions of dishes and thousands of delicatessen in the world. A human can spend his entire lifetime tasting the snacks, desserts and main courses that are cooked around the world. While it is improbable, there is no harm in knowing about the things that can satisfy your palettes and take you on a sensory trip through its taste, smell and appearance.

Let’s start with an object that may seem a bit unusual as a food item. It is truffle. A truffle is the fruiting body of a subterranean mushroom. There are hundreds of species of truffle and among them some are very much edible. It is considered a delicatessen in the cooking of Middle Eastern countries, Spain, Greece, Italy and France. Truffle is regularly used in international haute cuisine. Apart from that salt, oil, honey is also made from truffle.

Among meat dishes, duck meat is highly consumed in various parts of the world. French cuisine has quite a few world famous duck olijfolie. Confit de canard (duck confit) is duck legs cooked with garlic and other herbs. A classic French dish is the Duck à l'orange which is duck is roasted and served with a sauce made from oranges. Then there is Foie gras, a specially fattened and rich liver, taken from a duck or goose. Duck dishes from some other countries are- Bebek Betutu, a famous dish of Bali, Indonesia, the sweet and sour Polish soup called Czernina and the American dish Turducken where turkey, duck and chicken are carefully stuffed into each other.

When it comes to sweets and desserts, chocolate cannot be left out. The three main types of chocolate are dark, white and milk chocolate. With them, many many items can be made- chocolate cakes, pudding, cookies, ice cream, candy and also drinks like chocolate milkshake, hot chocolate etc. Swiss and Belgian preparations of chocolate delicatessen are especially famous around the world.

Another widely used meat food is sausage. It can be obtained from any animal, but traditionally it is beef, pork, veal and chicken in some countries. The most popular sausage delicatessen is salami, cured, dried and fermented meat, originally eaten by peasants of Southern Europe. Salami based olijfolie can be found in Italy, France, Germany, USA, Hungary etc.

Olijfolie (olive oil) is considered as an exquisite cooking medium. In countries near the Mediterranean Sea, Olijfolie is the main medium of cooking. In salad dressings, a variation known as the extra virgin delicatessen is used. For deep fried foods and foods that are eaten cold, Olijfolie is perfectly suited. The more it is heated, the greater is the chance of its flavour and taste getting compromised.
